What will I need to make Chana Chaat?
The most important ingredient would be cooked chana/ cooked chickpeas. I always use my Instant Pot to cook them to perfection. Here is how to use Instant Pot to cook the chickpeas. You can use canned chickpeas as well.
You will need few other ingredients like red onions, tomatoes, cilantro, lime/lemon juice, chaat masala, salt, red chili powder (or green chilies), and black salt (optional).
How do I make it?
Chop the onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. Add them to the cooked chana/chickpeas. Now add chaat masala, salt, red chili powder (or green chilies), and black salt. Squeeze half a lime/lemon into it. Mix well.
Voila! Its ready to eat.
Try this : If this is a pre-planned dish, then squeeze the lime/lemon into the chana well in advance (1-2 hours). This enhances the taste of your chaat. It brings out the flavor way better.
Chana Chaat – Indian chickpeas salad
Ingredients
- 1 cup cooked chana (chickpeas/ garbanzo beans)
- 1/4 cup chopped red onions
- 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
- 2 tbsp. chopped cilantro
- 1/2 tsp. chaat masala (refer notes for substitute)
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp. red chilli powder or finely chopped green chillies
- black saltto taste (optional)
- 1/2 lime or lemon
Instructions
- Chop the onions, tomatoes, and cilantro.
- In a bowl, combine the cooked chana/chickpeas and chopped veggies.
- Now add chaat masala, salt, red chili powder (or green chilies), and black salt.
- Squeeze half a lime/lemon into it. and mix everything together.
Notes
- You can use canned chickpeas as well. 1 cup cooked chickpeas are approximately 3/4th can.
- If you don’t have chaat masala you can simply add cumin powder and dry mango powder or make your own chaat masala. This recipe by The Spruce eats can be made in just 20 mins.
- If this is a pre-planned dish, then squeeze the lime/lemon into the chana well in advance (1-2 hours). It helps bring out the flavor very well.
