A little wise!

“Why such a low score in Maths?!!” I yelled,
As the big brown eyes with tears welled
But I didn’t see the sums that were right
Only the wrong ones caught my sight……

“Mom look!! I just wrote some awesome poetry!”
“Young man, what about that test on geometry?”
I didn’t care to read the rhymes he’d framed
But for circles n triangles, he sure got blamed…

I cringed as I saw the floor stained with paint
Glared at him as I started to vent
I didn’t see he had sketched his very own mother!
The marks on the carpet were all my bother…..

“Oh stop!” I yelled my fingers stuffed in my ear,
That newly bought drum was my latest fear
I didn’t hear the perfect music he played
All that I hated was the noise he made…..

“Learn those formulae!” I was tensed as ever
Math tests always brought on a fever
“Mom see this cricket score… it’s my personal best!”
But all I fretted over was the upcoming test….

Saturday finally! The week had been enough.
And I sat to down to declutter some long-pending stuff
As I saw something forgotten I had a lump in my throat,
Some words, some poetry I once upon a time wrote.
Some piano notes scribbled on a piece of paper,
A little lantern I had made from newspaper.
Some shells I’d collected, some beads from a chain.
I fought back a tear to see my childhood again.

“Wow, Mom! You were just so much like me!!
Why I love all these things, now I can see!”
I hugged him tight as he flung his arms around.
The shells and beads making their tinkling sound.

For once, geometry was put away….
As colors and music occupied our day.
We messed, we stained, we painted, we wrote.
Put on loud music and sailed paper boats.

“Mom what about circles? I have an upcoming test
But I promise to surely put in my best.”
I kissed his brown hair while he looked up in surprise.
As we wound up a day that had made me a little wise.
