Air fryer bread crumbs is yet another recipe that proves air fryer is the queen of my kitchen. (Instant pot is the king, we will talk about this another time) .
I had used 2 loaves of bread to make sandwiches for my son’s birthday party. I so did not feel like trashing all the crust I had cut out. That’s when I thought of making these bread crumbs in my Cosori air fryer (totally in love with it!)
Let’s admit it, most of us don’t like eating the bread crusts and those end slices of the loaf. But we definitely feel bad when we end up trashing it. So why waste it when you can utilize it to make something useful.
How do I make bread crumbs using an air fryer?
Air fryer instructions
This is a dump and start recipe, no need to shake/mix or flip. It is that simple!
1.Cut the sides of the bread slices. You can use end slices too.
2.Put 3 cups of tightly packed strips in the air fryer basket.
3.Set the temperature to 320 F and timer to 8 mins. No need to shake/mix at halftime.
4.Once done, wait for it to cool down.
5.Using a food processor, grind it into crumbs.
6.Store in an airtight container.
What kind of bread can I use to make bread crumbs?
Use whatever you have available- white, split top, whole wheat, multigrain, oats.
Bread loaded with pieces of grains/seeds on the top layer might give a more nutty taste to the bread crumbs.
Tip: You can save the crusts, end slices for a week to get enough quantity of breadcrumbs.
Can I make the bread crumbs with regular slices?
Of course, if you have plenty of bread to be put to use, go ahead. Just cut them into long strips. Helps remove the moisture from it faster.
Can I bake it in a convection oven?
Yes, you can bake it in a convection oven. The major difference will be that you might want to grind the crusts/slices in a food processor before baking it, for best results.
1.Preheat the oven to 300 F.
2.Using a food processor, grind the cut sides/slices. Make it as fine as it can get.
3.Line the baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the bread crumbs over the sheet.
4. Bake it for 10-12 mins. Let cool.
5.Store in an air-tight container.
Note: You can place the strips of the crust and end slices directly on the baking sheet and grind them into fine crumbs once cooled. You might need to keep it in the oven for 2-4 mins more in this case.
Storing it the right way
1.Store in a clean, dry airtight container.
2.Stays good for 2 months when stored correctly.
3.Use a dry spoon to get the crumbs out.
